This presentation will discuss the history of our attempts to save babies with mechanical ventilation, the theories upon which High Frequency Ventilation (HFV) was developed, and the physical dynamics of high-frequency gas flow through human lungs. The talk will include insider stories that share the unusual twists and turns in a scientist’s journey to develop the idea of ventilating the lungs of babies more gently into the Life Pulse High Frequency Jet Ventilator, and will end with how the theory of HFV supports or fails to support the application of Jet and Oscillatory ventilators on babies and children.
